JOIN US

We are always on the look out for new members, so would love to hear from you if you are interested in joining us. At the moment we have vacancies for tenors and sopranos but we are always interested in hearing from singers with choral experience.

We have an unusual rehearsal format. Rehearsals take place at approximately monthly intervals on a Friday evening plus Saturday (morning & afternoon) in Market Harborough. This rehearsal format allows those who can’t commit to a regular weekly schedule to become members and helps us have a concentrated but sociable rehearsal.

The choir typically performs at four or five concerts per year plus either a Cathedral visit (to sing the services) or an overseas tour bienially.

In order to join the choir, you would need to pass an audition (not as scary as it sounds!) and there are monthly subs which are currently just £15 (you can also pay quarterly or annually if you prefer).

To join the choir we would expect you to have some choral experience, be able to sing in tune, have a voice that blends, have at least a rudimentary ability to read music and want to be part of the ‘team’. You are certainly not expected to have perfect pitch (but we would be delighted if you did!).

The audition is not onerous. You would join us for a rehearsal and our MD, Charlie would want to spend ten minutes or so listening to you individually. Usually the audition takes place at the lunch break at a Saturday rehearsal. Charlie will ask you to sing some scales and then perform a piece of music - which you can prepare or we can provide. Typically, we use something we have been rehearsing that morning.

Being in the Harborough Singers is hugely rewarding for members both musically and socially. There is a significant level of personal commitment required but the enthusiasm and passion from the choir – combined with the energy and talent of our MD Charlie Penn – makes it well worth it.

Come on - take a chance..! We’re a friendly bunch and we look forward to meeting you.
