"Sing me the middle of these three notes... Now repeat this phrase to La... Let's see how high you can go..." David, Musical Director
Members need a good blending voice and, although strong sight reading is not a pre-requisite, the ability to pick up and follow a line of music quickly is important. It is not unknown to hand round a new piece of music on a Friday night and perform it to our high standard on the Saturday evening
Musically, we aim to perform as wide a range of repertoire as possible, and have a busy and varied concert programme both in Leicestershire and around the country. We aim to have a short trip outside the UK every few years. Click here to learn a little more about the kind of music we like to sing, and the concerts and collaborations we enjoy..
Acceptance as a member of the choir is dependent upon a successful audition at your first rehearsal with the musical director, David Beavan. Fortunately, that's nowhere near as daunting as it sounds – one recent recruit commented 'it wasn't so much of an audition as a gentle musical stroll: sing me the middle note of these three, now repeat this phrase to lah, now extend your voice upwards to these notes – let’s see how far you can go.
Ok, you’ll do nicely!’
Unusually, the basic rehearsal structure involves meeting on a monthly basis for intensive weekend rehearsals in Market Harborough on Friday evening and all day Saturday. Additional rehearsals are occasionally organised as required, possibly mid week, again in Market Harborough. With this type of format, it is important for potential members to demonstrate a high level of commitment both in attendance at scheduled rehearsals and between rehearsal personal practice.
Subscriptions are currently £120 per year (payable annually or by monthly standing order) and discounts are available for those aged under 23 or those with financial constraints. Please ask.
Music is provided but tenors and basses will be expected to provide their own DJ and black tie. Sopranos and altos will need black trousers, black shoes and make a small financial contribution (approx. £25) to a jacket provided by the choir.
We can share the rehearsal and performance schedule with you when we talk, but the website will give you some idea
